Confirmation of a foreign diploma in Ukraine

Підтвердження іноземного диплома в Україні

The main stages of nostrification (recognition) and advice from the Translation Agency “50 МОV”

If you have completed your higher education abroad and plan to work or continue your studies in Ukraine, you need to undergo the procedure of nostrification of your diploma – the official recognition of a foreign educational document by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine (MES).

This process confirms that your education meets Ukrainian state standards.

What is nostrification (recognition)?

Nostrification (recognition) is verification of the content of your curriculum, the number of hours, the qualification level and the assessment of compliance with the Ukrainian educational system.

Based on the results, the Ministry of Education and Science issues a certificate of recognition – a document that has legal force in Ukraine.

Basic list of documents

To submit an application for recognition of a diploma, you need to prepare:

  1. Original higher education diploma issued by an accredited educational institution.
  2. Supplement to the diploma (transcript, academic certificate) with a list of disciplines, grades and hours of study.
  3. Translation of the diploma and supplement into Ukrainian with notarization of the copy and translation into Ukrainian.
  4. Identity document (passport or ID card; for foreigners – with translation).
  5. Consent for the recognition procedure.
  6. Statement-consent for personal data verification.

  10. Receipt for payment of the administrative fee established by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

 Additional documents for special areas

  • Medical diplomas – are additionally confirmed by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
  • Academic degrees (PhD, Doctor) — abstracts from the dissertation, list of publications, recommendations are submitted.
  • Engineering, technical, legal specialties — may require certificates of practical experience or professional certificates.

 Apostille or legalization?

  • If the country has signed the Hague Convention, the diploma should be certified with an apostille.
  • If not, consular or diplomatic legalization of documents is required.

Without proper certification, the document cannot be accepted for consideration by the Ministry of Education and Science.
